Ubuntu Touch OTA-15 Released with Support for New Ubuntu Phones, More Improvements

Ubuntu Touch OTA-14 Released

UBports released today the Ubuntu Touch OTA-15 software update for Ubuntu Phone devices to bring you one last layer of improvements and new features before the end of 2020.

Ubuntu Touch OTA-15 brings support for new devices as official, stable Ubuntu Phones that you can install Ubuntu Touch on using the UBports Installer. These include the Google Pixel 3a, F(x)tec Pro1, F(x)tec Pro1 X, OnePlus 2, Samsung Galaxy Note 4, and Xiaomi Redmi Note 7.

This release also improves the Android 9 hardware compatibility layer, especially to offer the best possible experience to those who bought the Volla Phone. Among these improvements, there’s smoother audio playback, automatic configuration of mobile data APN settings, the ability to rotate photos taken with the front camera, and sending of USSD codes.

The Morph Browser received some attention too in the Ubuntu Touch OTA-15 update, including a shiny new icon, the ability to swipe up from the bottom of the screen to switch tabs, redesigned tab switching interface to be able to close tabs by swiping them away instead of using the small “X” touch area, support for JavaScript to access the Ubuntu Touch clipboard, and reordered “Domain Settings” interface by most recently used domain.

Among other noteworthy changes, Ubuntu Touch OTA-15 implements MMS error reporting to further enhance the reception of MMS messages, the ability to dial calls from Bluetooth devices, a new Thai input method for the on-screen keyboard, an improved dark theme, and various other bug fixes.

The Ubuntu Touch OTA-15 update is now rolling out to all supported Ubuntu Phone devices and you should receive it during the next couple of days. Meanwhile, UBports will work on the next update, Ubuntu Touch OTA-16, which will arrive in 2021 with support for Qt 5.12 and an Ubuntu 20.04 LTS (Focal Fossa) base, finally!
