System76 is teasing today the upcoming launch of the AMD-only “Pangolin” Linux laptop powered by AMD Ryzen 4000 series of processors and featuring integrated AMD Radeon graphics.
The “Pangolin” would be System76’s second AMD-powered Linux laptop after the Serval WS, but this one also features integrated AMD Radeon graphics as the Serval WS came with Nvidia graphics.
At the moment of writing, System76 didn’t say much about their upcoming AMD-only Linux laptop except for the specs, which include either AMD Ryzen 5 4500U or AMD Ryzen 7 4700U CPUs, AMD Radeon integrated graphics, up to 64 GB DDR4 3200 MHz RAM, up to 8TB SSD storage, and a Full HD 15.6-inch matte finish display.
“We’re rolling out the red carpet for the Pangolin, which is sporting components from team red. AMD Ryzen CPUs team up with AMD Radeon integrated graphics to bring you the full team red experience inside a light, fast everyday laptop,” said System76.
Connectivity-wise, the Pangolin laptop comes with one USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A port, one USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port, two USB 2.0 Type-A ports, an HDMI port with HDCP support, Gigabit Ethernet, Intel Dual Band Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5, a 3.5mm headphone/microphone combo jack, and a MicroSD card reader.
System76’s Pangolin will also feature stereo speakers and 1.0MP 720p HD webcam. Of course, users will be able to purchase the Linux laptop pre-installed with either System76’s in-house built Pop!_OS 20.10 or Pop!_OS 20.04 LTS (64-bit) operating systems, as well as with Ubuntu 20.04 LTS (Focal Fossa).
At only 3.64 lbs (1.65kg), the Pangolin aims to be an ultra portable Linux laptop, and what’s more important is its price, which starts at only $849 USD, making it quite accessible to the masses.
System76 didn’t say when their AMD-only Pangolin laptop will be available, but I’m willing to bet it’ll come just in time for the Christmas holidays, in case you were planning on buying a powerful and fast Linux laptop to your loved ones. For more details, check out the laptop’s official website.
